Worldscale and voyage economics: compare like with like
Worldscale expresses tanker freight against a nominal route scale, using negotiated percentage levels. It gives parties a common reference, but the resulting quotation still needs a route, a cargo quantity and an applicable scale basis.
Avoid a misleading comparison
A higher percentage on one route does not automatically mean better earnings than a lower percentage on another. Our recommended comparison keeps the route basis and voyage assumptions visible alongside the freight quotation. Confirm which additions, differentials and other costs belong in the actual calculation.
Preserve the original basis
Store the wording and date of a quotation rather than reducing it to an unexplained number. Keep a reported assessment distinct from an agreed fixture and a forecast distinct from either. This article explains a comparison method; it is not a published rate assessment or a quotation for a particular voyage.
